The Sparkliest Four Minutes of Your Day

Johnny on the Fourth Hour of Today this morning
with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, in which
he assisted with an Olympics trivia quiz.
Best way to start a Wednesday ever.

UPDATE: Even more new pics via Getty below!

UPDATE: Yes, we have video
of Johnny’s commentary on Cup of China!

Reminder: Johnny is commentating
on all the Grand Prix events!
Tune in to NBC’s coverage of NHK Trophy
this Sunday, November 10
sure to be anything but boring...

Yesssss!!
Thank you, NBC Sports!

So normally I don’t do a sort of one-hit wonder post, but fans across the world are waiting to see some scrap of Johnny’s appearance on Today this morning and no one really wants to read a lot of words from me about it—they just want to SEE HIM and hear what he said and admire his outfit, so thanks to the amazing Jenn Kittler, we can all do that right now without further ado. He was only on for about four minutes, which clearly doesn’t begin to sate our primal need to see him on TV, but if your life is anything like mine, which today is made up exclusively of piles of laundry and bills and dishes, all of which hold no interest for me whatsoever, it will certainly be the sparkliest four minutes of your Wednesday and well worth watching repeatedly while you avoid all that other crap. Enjoy! (Video embedded below the screencaps.)

UPDATE: Wonderful news!!
Can't wait to see his
inspirations on the ice!

Hoda Kotb introduces Johnny:
Here to help me out in the studio is a very special man.
He is a two-time Olympian, and the newest figure skating analyst
for NBC’s Olympics coverage in Sochi.
His name, of course is Johnny Weir.

Hoda: I like your outfit! I wondered what you would wear.
Johnny: Well, I wanted to do very graphic
black-and-white for you today.
Hoda: I’m into it.

Hoda: Are you ready?
Johnny: I’m absolutely ready.

Johnny explains the answer to the first question
of the day, “Which of the following events is new to the
2014 Sochi Olympics?” The answer is the biathlon mixed relay,
and “that is apparently skiing cross-country...

...and shooting...

...and there is a mixed team of gentlemen and ladies
that will go across Russia.”

Hoda: That sounds interesting.
Johnny: It sounds terrifying.
Hoda: It certainly does. Back across to Kathie!

The answer to the next question, “who is the most decorated
American Winter Olympian of all time,” is Apolo Ohno.
Hoda: He’s a nice guy. Do you know him?
Johnny: He’s a very very friendly, nice guy,
incredible speed skater, looks great in tights...
Hoda: Look at you. Look at you. Johnny.
All right, back across to Kath.

Kathie: Johnny is going to be an awesome addition
to our Winter coverage. He’s so delightful!

The next question is, “Matt Lauer and Al Roker
have teamed up to try all of the following Olympic sports
except a) synchronized swimming, b) luge, c) wrestling,
or d) figure skating?” The answer is figure skating.
As they show footage of Matt and Al wrestling,
Johnny breathes, “That’s so sexy....”

In answer to the next question, Johnny explains
that Russia has chosen multiple mascots
to represent the Sochi Olympics (but no snowman):
“Russia was very specific in choosing very Russian animals—
a leopard, a hare, a polar bear—winter-themed animals
that they have all across Russia.”

Final question: “Which of the following is NOT a term
associated with figure skating: a) axel jump, b) camel spin,
c) hammerhead, d) sit spin?” The contestant answers correctly,
and Johnny confirms: “A hammerhead is a shark,
not a figure skating move.”
Hoda then asks: “One quick question: What are you going
to be wearing when you do the Olympic coverage?
What is your outfit going to be?”

“I haven’t quite decided yet. It’s going to be sparkly,
because I’ll be upset that I won’t be on the ice
competing with those boys...

...but I will outshine them
sitting in my little chair...

...and talking about them.”
Absolutely.

I discovered over the weekend that there are
brief rehearsal clips of Johnny on my cell phone

The footage is blurry and jumpy, but as I re-watched
this one for the first time in months, I suddenly realized
