"The Ice King That Melts My Heart"

Johnny on Fashion Police
after being introduced by Joan Rivers as
"The Ice King that melts my heart."

Kayso in our ongoing adventure titled "Shows I Would Never Ever Watch Except That Johnny's On Them So Now I've Recorded His Episode Like Three Times Just In Case," we present Johnny's appearance on Joan Rivers' Fashion Police last Friday, in which he was, as the video description below notes, "cute, funny and effervescent... He shares his best and worst looks, his philosophy on fashion..." And he was a hit, of course, as seen in just a few samples of the tsunami of Twitter love he received that is customary after his every appearance:

Timeless

Johnny.
Exclusive photo © David Ingogly.

This series of photos was shot at the Holiday Dreams on Ice 2012 post-show VIP party, held in a small hotel bar near the Long Island rink.

Johnny was tired, having had a very long rehearsal the night before that ended sometime after midnight, a full day of dress rehearsals the day of the show, multiple performances in the actual show itself, and after-show photographs at the rink. Then he had to hurry and scrub off all his makeup, change clothes, redo his hair, gather all his things, and arrive to spend hours more at the meet-n-greet.

Yet, as always, his beautiful energy when he entered the room was magnetic.

Throwback Thursday: Blogoversary!

Yes!! Johnny's cooking things up
on Food Network again!
He'll be one of the competitors on Season 3
of Chopped All-Stars, premiering in April.
Screencap from the preview video below!

Oh hai.

Yes, I'm still editing that manuscript. Only 361 billion more pages to go...

But I glanced up from my screen long enough to notice that today is February 28, which, besides being the last day of the longest shortest month ever, is also the third blogoversary! Which is traditionally the "leather" anniversary, so here:

"If I Could Be Anyone in the World, I Would Be Johnny Weir"

Johnny accepts the first annual
"Johnny Weir WinterPride Award"
on the ice at the Penns Landing Rink during
Philadelphia's WinterPride celebration last Friday
(yes, the award is actually named after him).

More than 15 years ago, a young Pennsylvania boy laced up a pair of ice skates and taught himself how to glide among the remains of cornstalks on the frozen Amish-country fields behind his house.

On Friday—three national titles, two Olympics, and one World medal later—he returned home to be honored with the very first "Johnny Weir WinterPride Award," presented by the Office of the Mayor on behalf of the City of Philadelphia.

Light

People are like stained-glass windows.
They sparkle and shine when the sun is out,
but when the darkness sets in,
their true beauty is revealed only if
there is a light from within.

Incomparable

A celebration in brief picspam
of the artist and athlete
whose presence is deeply missed
at this year's US National Championships
and still hoped-for at next year's;
whose boundary-smashing influence is seen
in programs and costumes in rinks around the world;
who, each time he steps onto the ice,
takes his audience on a journey of
fierce elegance, grace, and expressiveness,
in which we leave the world behind
and are spellbound by something
more like performance art
than an ice-skating program;
and whose tremendous natural talent—
Dick Button once described his skating as "liquid gold"—
remains a still-marvelled-at phenomenon
in the fickle world of competitive figure skating:

The one and only

Johnny Weir.

Captain Glitter Fights On

Johnny listens to the explanation
of this week's challenge from Rachael—who had just
greeted her own team, "Hello champs!"—with
a look that prompted this question on Twitter
"Is there an Emmy for best bitchface
in a competition-based reality show?"

Golden

that caused the camera to interpret the limited
available light as reds and golds.

A year ago tomorrow, Johnny announced his return to competitive skating, with Victor by his side and high hopes in the hearts of fans everywhere.

It was a golden moment.
