Random Monday Roundup

The friend who can be silent with us
in a moment of despair or confusion,
who can stay with us
in an hour of grief and bereavement,
who can tolerate not knowing...
not healing, not curing...
that is a friend who cares.
— Henri  Nouwen

Thoughts and prayers and love go out today
and in the days ahead to all those affected
by the extraordinarily difficult events of last week
all around the world—which is to say,
all of us, in one way or another.

There is an amazing something
in the American psyche
which speaks about courage,
and it says, "Yes I can," ...
Yes, we will overcome it all
because we have the spirit to do so.
— Maya Angelou

Today's Must-Read Moment

ICYMI this weekend: "Effeminate Male Role Models,"
by LGBT-fiction writer Madison Parker. Some quotes:
"What positive male role models do effeminate men
have to look up to? One shining example is U.S. figure skating
champion Johnny Weir. Although he didn’t come out as gay
early on in his career, he has always been notably
(and unapologetically) effeminate. Furthermore, Johnny has
always displayed a tremendous amount of pride in who he is
and what he believes in. ... Throughout his career, Johnny has
refused to change his appearance or the way he skates
to fit someone else’s mold of what he should be. ...
I think he’s a wonderful role model, not just for
effeminate men, but for all people."
And even the comments section is wonderful!
(such a refreshing change of pace...)
Thank you, Ms. Parker!

Yes, it has been a tough week for the emotions.

Nike should just "Do it!" Be brave enough to sponsor an already out athlete such as Johnny Weir who is not afraid to be himself and express himself. What are they waiting for? Probably they are looking for someone who can sell their athletic shoes, and they don't make ice skates. But he can certainly sell clothing.

Saw this riddle pillow and thought of Johnny. www.levimage.com/IMAGE/Web/Product/Furniture/Misc_Furniture/FA4130_1711_miLEORIDPIL_s3.jpg

I love the new background! And all the great photos! We can always depend on those Artistry on Ice fans to come up with great photos and videos, so you'll probably have a lot to work with during those shows! :-)

And yes, it has been a tough week. But we Americans are tough and resilient.
