So beautiful. Thank you, Tanya,
for sharing your gift with all of us!

Kayso you may be wondering why we're featuring a (simply gorgeous) photo from December 11, 2011, when today is March 1, 2012....

Well, because yesterday Johnny's Facebook fan page was forced to switch to the NEW! Facebook! Timeline!, which sucks balls in such a major way that it begs to become a new Internet meme.

Oh wait...

It's like the people who brought us Memento stopped by Zuckerberg's office one day and said, "Hey, you want any help with that redesign you've been talking about? Cuz we'd love to f*ck with the minds of your 800 million active users." And he was like, "Oh, perfect timing! The Inception people just bailed on me." (Not that he has any idea AT. ALL. what "timing," or its root, "time," actually mean.) And now we all need a handy spinning-wheel graphic like this just to figure out WTF. IS. HAPPENING. ON. THE. PAGE.

Yes, I loooooove the cover photo (thank you, page admins, for choosing Davey's pic!). Haaaaaate everything else about this new layout. What really drives me nuts are the newly nonsensical display choices. Now I can have:

(1) "Highlights," which is a COMPLETELY random selection of LOLWUT, including a blog post FROM LAST NOVEMBER. (See meme.) Or:

(2) "Posts by Page," so I can just read Johnny's stuff. Sort of in order, by which I mean desperately seeking to divine some kind of order by darting my eyes back and forth across that increasingly irritating line down the middle of his page to try to figure out if he tweeted about going to the movies AFTER he went to bed, or if he had an AbFab moment with his closet BEFORE his hair was a disaster. And who READS this way? When you open a book, do you read one paragraph from the lefthand page, then skip to the middle paragraph on the righthand page, and then go back to the lefthand page? Me neither. FFS. Also for some reason it annoys me to have Johnny referred to as a "page." Plus I love him but I'd like to see what other people are posting also. Which brings me to:

(3) "Posts by Others." Same problem as in (2), plus then after about five minutes I miss Johnny. And finally:

(4) The comedically incomprehensible "Friend Activity," which showed me this:

And if I scrolled down, I got this:

Which I don't evan know what that means.

But here's one thing I do know: Whatever this mess is, it's thoroughly, utterly, absolutely NOT this:

Or else we've been doing all our space missions totally wrong.

(I shudder to think what might have befallen the world if the FB developers worked for NASA: "No, wait, they were supposed to get in the shuttle BEFORE it took off....?" "What side of the manual are you reading that from...?" "I'm on the left side under 'Astronaut Activity,' but I got nothing..." "Oh look! Here's a memo from the president from last November. 'Dear team: Due to budget cuts, you're all fired.'" "Oh, I'm not friended with him, so I didn't see that...")

Well, we've been here before. Almost exactly a year ago. And where then we had Fashion Week pics to distract us, this year we're just going to plunge right into this dreamy, "time-has-no-meaning-so-how-could-I-possibly-be-late-to-work" perspective and enjoy more truly glorious picspam courtesy of dear Tatiana, culled from the awesome batch of nearly 250 photos she sent me at some point in the future when I was in St. Petersburg about 10 years ago. Really. It's on my FB timeline.

From Russia With Love.
As Always.

The following pics, which are all just made of win, are from a portion of the meeting Johnny had with his Russian fans back in December. Thank you, Tanya, for allowing me to premiere these here! And yes, there are more to come!

IDK why this is wavy and kinda time-warpy,
but I love the effect and now I think maybe this
should be his FB cover photo.
I believe this is when he first arrived
at the fan meeting (in his DeLorean?).
Also love his hat so much.

Adorkable.

Johnny seems slightly alarmed
as he points to the laptop Irina Volkova, right,
has set up to carry him on livestream
around the world....

...but she reassures him that it's all good,
and he waves. Sadly, the Internet failed
at some point, so no livestream.
But thank you, Ira, for thinking of us and doing
everything you could to make it happen!!

IIRC, he also was thrilled that it was
something he could clean.

Thank you again, Tanya, and also Ira, for sharing this wonderful fan meeting with us!

Two Really, Really Nice Things
That Happened This Week

My lovely friend @ayukovon drew this for me to say "Happy Blogoversary!" And I love it so very much that I actually, finally came out from behind the masked image that has been my longstanding profile pic everywhere on the Internet and traded up to this new look:

Thank you SO much, Ayumi, for such a lovely gift!! It makes me smile every time I see it. (Plus, we have not a single picture of the three of us because Davey's always the one taking the photos and doesn't particularly care to be in them. So this is very much the next best thing!) BRB wallpapering every room in the house... :D

And then there was this late in the day yesterday:

Which totally made my whole year. Already. And it's only July 32 in the year Twenty-Eleventy-Seventy-Two. Isn't that right, Zuckerberg?

Thank you SO much, Johnny!! And you're very welcome. It's been AMAZING. Just like you.

Bonus videos!! Which I also don't evan know
what this one is, exactly. But I love it.
All I know is that @tower_of_ozil tweeted the link
to it yesterday, and the description says:
"I, a student of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies,
made 'Tower of Johnny' for the exhibition.
To celebrate Johnny Weir's marriage (*^_^*)
Happy Wedding!"

Important Historical Note (which Facebook would
never be able to reveal, because, well, history):
Eleven years ago today, Johnny won
his Junior World Title! Congratulations!!

Happy Blogoversary! (Again? Really?)

Or: My, How Time Flies When You're Busy... Aging. Which I Guess Is What Happens When Time Flies. All of a Sudden You Look Up from Your Blog and You're Like, "Eeeeeek!". And So You Soothe Yourself by Editing Pics of an Ageless Figure Skater Who Actually Seems to Be Glowing Even More in Recent Weeks Than Ever Thanks to His Wonderful Husband, and Then You Write Really Long Dropheads About Said Skater, and the Next Thing You Know.... You're Even Older. OK, I Was Hoping This Drophead Was Going to Have a Happier Ending Than That, But Whatever. I'll Settle for More Pics. Here's One:

Because he's awesome like that.

So this is the second anniversary of the ongoing-fascination-and-surrounding-silliness-softly-edged-with-occasional-scathing-political-commentary-and-bad-language that passes for blogging in this space. For which, BTW, we can pretty much blame Davey, who two years ago--after listening to me (as much as he ever listens to me, given the headphones permanently mounted to his ears) once again embark on my continuing rant against figure-skating scoring in general and Vancouver in particular--ever so politely, and really without a hint of desperation at all in his tone, suggested, "Maybe you should have a blog, Mom."

And here we are.

And even the subject of the blog is kind of his fault, since Davey's also the one who remarked innocently nearly three years ago, "Hey, you should join this thing called Twitter..." So I did. And then one day back in December 2009, someone tweeted a link to this, and...

The rest is blogging history. Or something.

So I looked it up, and the second anniversary is traditionally The Cotton Anniversary. Unless you're in the UK, where it's paper. Which is traditionally the first anniversary in the US instead of... cotton, as it is in the UK. Which got me caught in kind of an endless glassy-eyed loop there for a while...  and neither of which makes any sense in the context of a blog anyway. The modern US second anniversary is china. Well, I'll give you that: Johnny's trip to China last summer accompanied by fabulous Beauty Bear Eric Alt certainly turned out to be an amazing gift for all of us.

So anyway: to celebrate the fact that I continue to have no semblance of interest in anything else whatsoever except possibly for sending Rick Santorum back to whatever misogynistic hellscape of staggeringly ignorant sweater-vested demons birthed him, let's review some random highlights that have helped bring two years of blogging to a very happy anniversary indeed. :D

(1) Where It All Began. My very first blog entry. Others also went on to describe him this way.

(2) The Joy of... Statistics.
  • 03-02-2010: Johnny has 41,172 Twitter followers and 28,496 Facebook fans.

  • 02-28-2012: 107,364 Twitter followers; 67,271 "likes" on Facebook. Statistical note: These numbers will be outdated by the time you get to the end of this sentence.
That's more than 66,000 Twitter followers gained in two years--or more than the entire population of Quarryville, PA, on average, PER MONTH. Plus nearly 39,000 new Facebook "likes," for an average of 1,600 per month--or about 600 MORE people EVERY MONTH than actually voted for Rick Santorum out of the entire state of Maine in their GOP caucus. This pleases me. (BTW Johnny tweeted a few days ago asking for more Facebook "likes." In return, he's gotten nearly 200 so far. Please go "like" him now if you haven't already!)

(3) Most-Read Post Ever. Because who doesn't love Johnny on a jungle gym? Also: Dear Tara, thank you forever for all the pics.

(4) This. Cracks me up every. single. time.

(5) Also This.

(6) Johnny Wins Everything!! The NewNowNext Award for Most Addictive Reality Star. US Figure Skating's Skater of the Year Award/Michelle Kwan Trophy (for the SECOND TIME. Making him the only skater other than Michelle herself ever to win it more than once). The HRC Visibility Award. The honor of being chosen as Grand Marshal of the LA Pride Parade, the face of MAC's Glitter and Ice campaign, the man of the hour at ITNY's "Dare to Be Different" Benefit Gala, and, most regally, our Winter Monarch.

(7) OMG This.

(8) Davey Gets a Camera. For which we all are forever grateful.

(9) Johnny Gets Married. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

(10) This. Because everything about HDOI in Philly was beautiful. Like this photo.

"The Most Amazing Skater in the World." Yes. This.

Johnny Weir. Photo © Victor Voroov @ Official Johnny Weir Blog.
Photo tweeted yesterday by Victor,
who also wrote
"At the rink watching @JohnnyGWeir--
the most amazing skater in the world--practice.
Getting chills, and not from the ice."
With bonus Galina in an awesome coat.

So it's KILLING me not to go to Skate for the Goal, which is a thing that's happening TOMORROW at which Johnny will be appearing--though not skating, as far as I know, but whatever: he'll BE there, in all his amazing Johnnyness, which is never to be missed if at all possible--and where, for the insanely low price of $10, you can actually go chat with him at the meet-n-greet, enjoy a whole lot of great skating, and also feel good that your $10 is going to support two wonderful charities, Special Olympics-NY and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. And while that ticket price is beyond tempting, I just cannot work out the numbers of spending hundreds of dollars on gas to drive like 1600 miles round trip for a 30-minute meet-n-greet and make it seem cost-effective and also like I'm not a crazy person. I even consulted my current edition of Math for Figure Skating Judges: What to Do When the Numbers Make No F*cking Sense Whatsoever But You're Stubbornly Committed to Them Against All Reason (Braille Edition)--which I'm hoping will be replaced with an updated volume by this fall (no pun intended. See what I did there?) (tentative working title: The New Math for Figure Skating Judges: Johnny Wins! Hello.)--and even then, I was just left with: +3 GOE for the attempt, but so many deductions for traveling (and not even on a spin) that I ended up at like -$500,000. A new personal not-best.

So if you're anywhere near Sky Rink, Chelsea Piers, in New York City this weekend--GO. Get your tickets now at Sky Rink, or at the door on Saturday, or by emailing skateforthegoal@gmail.com. Go for all of us who can't, and will instead be slouching at our desks clad in leggings, baggy oversized sweaters, and a bitchy attitude, seeking comfort the only way we know how: endless chocolate, with a giant side of Johnny picspam. And if you go, FFS please TAKE SOME PICS! (And send them to me, if you're so inclined. I'd love that. *side eyes at Maggie, Deb, Jenn, Karen, Beth...*) And please tell him hi from Binky. ♥

Oh, one other thing before we drown our sorrows in a beautifully lit, frozen sea of picspam: Kayso IDK if you noticed, but dear Beauty Bear Eric Alt has done some tweaking of his Twitter accounts. His original account, @EricAltSalons, is no more. Instead he now has @MREricAlt, which is his personal account, and the new @EricAltSalon (no "s" at the end), for biz purposes.

If you followed @EricAltSalons before, you likely got transferred automatically to @MREricAlt--but to get all the latest news, specials, and tips from Alt world, you need to follow the new account.

The fabulous Kristen Lohman is now the voice of @EricAltSalon, and she has personally promised that she will "dish out interesting tweets on everything from hair, fashion, lifestyle, and of course anything Eric does with the incredibly handsome, well-coiffed Johnny." I love her already. She understands us. So please show her and Eric some love by following @EricAltSalon ASAP!

OK then. On to picspam of the most amazing skater in the world.

Ave Maria, Part 1

The following series of photos covers just the first 40 seconds
of this beautiful, beautiful program.
Johnny's performance that night at Holiday Dreams on Ice
seemed particularly inspired and ethereal.

After I saw Victor's tweet yesterday, I debated whether to run this series or go with some practice pics. But Johnny's pose in Victor's pic immediately brought to mind his Ave Maria performance, as you'll see below.

Ordinarily we edit most photos to offer a close-up of Johnny, because that's most often what readers want: that feeling that he's right there. But I couldn't bear to crop any of these. The lighting is so breathtaking, and the shadows and reflections of Johnny created on the ice are such an integral part of the whole effect that I left each one exactly as Davey had taken them--exactly how he framed Johnny with the camera.

The lighting also varies from golden to blue to purple, altering the hue of his costume. And sometimes it's just enough to softly, barely illuminate the arena's staircases behind him.

Fortunately, these uncropped photos are, in fact, HUGE. And magnificently detailed. So it's the best of both worlds. Please click to the full-size versions, and please be patient: because they're so huge, they take a moment to load. Then click again for full size. And then linger over every one.....

The first five photos are Johnny's opening pose on the ice
as he waits for the right moment in the music.
Each one is slightly different--his expression changes
very subtly, and he shifts his body just a bit.
The lighting also shifts--in photos 2 and 4,
one spotlight is brighter, or maybe there's an extra one;
in the others, the scene is darker.
The lighting casts a trinity of shadows across the ice
as Johnny prepares to skate....

I truly have no words for these.
But it's OK, because my lovely friend Junko
whom I was so thrilled to meet at HDOI,
already said it all for me:

That night Johnny was very beautiful and was Angel.

He shined by happiness.

His existence in itself is art.

God dwelled in this night Johnny.
