Postcards from Taipei

because it’s pleasingly huge.

So it’s a little challenging to try to stay current with what’s happening in Taipei, since it’s currently Friday morning here but it’s already Friday night there, so no matter what I do I’m basically lagging behind because the future is happening now and I’m still sipping the first coffee of the day (or the last coffee of the night, because my understanding of “day” and “night” is fairly fluid anyway, by which I mean constantly fueled by coffee-drenched fluids 24/7), but anyway here’s all the latest stuff I could find from what I could best identify as adorably meaningless constructs known as “Thursday” and “Friday,” although I’m pretty sure more Friday stuff is coming any second now but we’ll just save that for some other round of coffee...

Taipei Travelogue, Or: Waiting for the Weibocalypse...

Kayso Johnny arrived safely in Taipei about 6 pm-ish New York time on Tuesday which for him was about 6 am-ish Wednesday morning in Taipei (confused about the time difference? Check the handy clock in the blog sidebar to see when Johnny is! It may not help, but the little ticking numbers are oddly mesmerizing...), where he was greeted by fans bearing flowers and gifts, as always, despite the bleary-eyed early hour, which is partly to blame for the fact that we only have a few photos of his arrival since because zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... But here they are:

Hero

Johnny arrives at the Delaware Valley Legacy
Fund’s HEROES event on Sunday, May 19,
at which he received the 2013 National Hero Award.
The honor has previously gone to various nonprofit
to be recognized as DVLF’s National Hero.

So that was a completely amazing event and worth every minute of the 14-hour drive there and the 14-hour drive back.

The Delaware Valley Legacy Fund, a nonprofit LGBT organization that, like so many things in the past three years, I had never heard of until suddenly there was a Johnny connection to it, is a really wonderful group of people who work tirelessly to help the LGBT community, primarily through fundraising, education, and grant-making.

They also know how to throw a (classy but really really fun) party.

Table for Four? Yes Please

Kayso I had way too much time on my hands suddenly yesterday, so this happened...

...inspired for Throwback Thursday by, of course, the classic movie, My Dinner With Andre, and by the incredible fact that I spent the day suspended in geologic time while my car was being fixed, but a re-creation of the poster for Waiting for Godot didn’t really seem to apply to the exciting news at hand that, as mentioned previously, the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund is raffling off dinner for two with Johnny and VictorIt’s one of the prizes at their annual Heroes event this Sunday in Philadelphia, at which they also are presenting Johnny with the 2013 National Hero Award.
