Driven

My neck hurts, I'm tired
and I need a manicure,
but the music and the dream
keep me rockin'...

I can't even imagine how grueling it must be to return to the training regimen necessary for an elite athlete aiming for his third Olympics. Johnny, please know that we believe in you, we support you all the way, and we know you can do it. And we hope your neck feels better today. :)

Whilst we ponder the incredible grit, drive, determination, and commitment it takes to do what he's doing, here's a tiny glimpse into what it looks like to pull it together just for an exhibition performance when you're hungry and tired, you have two hours' worth of show plus two more hours of fan meeting-and-greeting ahead of you--and show time is less than an hour away....

This brief set was taken during Johnny's warmup prior to HDOI on December 23 (yes, not to worry, we have tons more from his warmup! Just need more time to edit edit edit...). He seemed to be in a much more serious mood on Friday than he was on Thursday, and his intensity and concentration are evident throughout--even under a layer of fatigue.

(As always, please click any photo twice for full-size view. Some of these are just amazingly beautiful.)

...and even just for warm-up, he's not satisfied
unless he runs through every part of his performance
in his head, down to the finest flick of his fingertips...

Bonus pics: He's hot, sweaty, breathing hard,
and still not quite done as he comes flying past us yet again.
Though we have been very privileged to be invited
to attend several of his warmups in the past year,
sometimes we feel awkward, like we're intruding,
with our ever-present burst of shutter-clicking noise in his ear
every time he glides by. He's often friendly at first,
with a smile and sometimes a wave as he zooms past;
but as he goes through all his preparations,
pretty soon he shuts us and everything else out--
and he's completely alone with the ice,
no matter how many people are watching him...

Nominate Johnny Weir for a social media award in the Shorty Awards!

Hey, Johnny's been nominated for a Shorty Award!! You can join in on the nominating process by clicking here and tweeting your vote for Johnny. Most fans are voting for him in the "Athlete" category.

Note: The Shorty Awards have very specific rules, which essentially boil down to this:

(1) You can only nominate him ONCE from each Twitter account that you have. Additional votes from the same account will NOT be counted. So it's one of those deals where we need a LOT of different people to vote, rather than a few people voting a lot.

(2) Your nominating tweet MUST include a reason (for example: "I nominate @JohnnyGWeir for a Shorty Award in #athlete because he inspires his fans to believe in themselves"--thanks @PatinaGlace!).

(3) You must NOT copy someone else's reason in your vote.

All righty then.

The nominating period ends February 17--please vote vote vote!! For more info, click here.

I so would like to watch, to witness that some day. I´ll keep hoping.

I´ve been revelling in all the vids from the HRC gala for the last few days. Watching them repeatedly. And there is no end in sight as well. I see why you like that screencap so much. That´s why I like it too.

Thanks to Davey for the practice pics and, of course, to you for putting it all together.

It takes a lot of sweat and pain to get something so difficult so right and so beautiful. Thank you to you, David, and BGJW for capturing that. A soloist has no orchestra to hide within.

Here's hoping that every gay couple can be as happy and as legal as Johnny and Victor. You can see "dream come true" written on their faces.
