Wishing safe travels and an amazing experience to Johnny, who knows down to his bones what it takes to be the one in the arena, having been that warrior not just in the Olympics but throughout his life, and to all his fellow Olympians—once an Olympian, always an Olympian—as they travel to Sochi this week to contribute, each in his or her own unique way, to the glory that is the Games.

I can only imagine how bittersweet Johnny’s third trip to the Olympics must be in some respects. For me, just as in 2010, I will be tuning in only because he will be there.

NBC plans to air all figure skating live via its NBC Sports Network cable channel (check local listings) and Internet livestream, with Johnny and broadcast partner Tara Lipinski providing commentary during the live coverage. Taped replays will be aired on NBC during evening primetime hours with Scott Hamilton and Sandra Bezic. Figure skating coverage begins at 10 am EST on Thursday, February 6, with the men’s short program for the all-new Team Event. For more broadcast and viewing options, please visit NBC Olympics.

The blog will be on hiatus the rest of this week as I dig my way out from under a gigantic project, but will return with as much coverage of our beloved expert figure skating analyst in Russia as it is possible to gather. 

In the meantime, don’t miss Johnny’s 4CC commentary airing on NBC this Saturday, February 1, as a lead-in to next week’s Olympic competition!
