Dare to Be Different

Be daring, be different,
be impractical,
be anything that will assert
integrity of purpose and imaginative vision
against the play-it-safers,
the creatures of the commonplace,
the slaves of the ordinary.
--Sir Cecil Beaton
British fashion and portrait photographer
and  Academy Award-winning stage
and costume designer for films and theatre

Johnny at work.
Fashion on Ice skater warm-up,
September 2011.
(Note: In photo #15 below, the white flecks on his shirt
are from a fall he took on the ice.)

I have always tried
to hide my efforts
and wished my works to have
a light joyousness of springtime
which never lets anyone suspect
the labors it has cost me.

Please join me in supporting GLAAD's Spirit Day initiative!
From GLAAD's website: "Millions of Americans wear purple
on Spirit Day as a sign of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual
and transgender (LGBT) youth and to speak out against bullying.
Spirit Day was started in 2010 by teenager Brittany McMillan
as a response to the young people who had taken their own lives.
Observed annually on October 20, individuals, schools, organizations,
corporations, media professionals and celebrities wear purple,

As lovely as he looks when he's all dolled up, I think candid shots like these are often when Johnny seems most beautiful. These are wonderful, thank you and your super talented son for sharing FOI so generously.

I really really wish I could be at the ITNY show, maybe one day I'll win the lottery and see Johnny skate live. Hope you and everyone else lucky enough to be there has the best time ever - I'm sure you will. And then pretty please share photos and videos?

A lily is beautiful, whether gilded or as is. Thank you for capturing these moments forever, with all the attendant blood, toil, tears and sweat involved thereby.
