So you may be wondering why we're suddenly in Russia after rolling around for days in all the GLAAD Media Awards coverage from NYC, and in fact there is an actual train of thought that got us here but it's maybe not an express train cuz the stops along the way were slightly random, but here goes: First I started seeing this article being tweeted by various people, so I went to look at it and naturally it was in Russian, but I scrolled through it anyway and if there's one thing in Russian I recognize, it's this: "Джонни Вейр." And I was just about to annoy Alice with it since Google Translate was all "...so that the intentions of Weir's best that neither is..." (excuse me?), but then my dear friend Tatiana Edrenkina came to everyone's rescue with a tweeted translation! Which is this:

By the way, when I met Albertville Olympic champion Viktor Petrenko by the rink, he confirmed that multiple-times US champion Johnny Weir has returned to the amateur sport (to be more exact – to the group of Petrenko and Galina Zmievskaya).

"He lost weight, regained all triple jumps, he doesn’t miss a single training and he works as selflessly as never before," Petrenko said. "He’ll start to compete already in the fall and it is quite possible that he will take part in a Grand Prix event. Now we’ve almost restored a quad, so Weir’s intentions are downright serious."

And then we were all \o/ !!!OMG YAY!!! \o/. And also, THANK YOU TANYA.

And then later Tanya was reminiscing that it was two years ago today that she first met Johnny in person at the airport in St. Petersburg, Russia, when he came to perform in Kings on Ice. And then I realized that the first time I met him was the day he flew back from that very same trip to Russia so that he could perform in Bensenville at Ice Dreams 2010.

And then all that made me suddenly realize that today would be the perfect day to run yet more glorious exclusive picspam courtesy of Tanya from the last time Johnny was in Russia, in December 2011, just a few weeks before he and Victor got married.
