Yes, I'm sorry I've been out of touch lately. Goodness, it's been nearly two weeks since I wrote anything here. I sort of got sidetracked by some stuff best described as a series of unfortunate events that arrived on my doorstep all shifty-eyed and sweaty, bearing a suspicious-looking briefcase crammed full of technical difficulties and also a worn carryon absolutely brimming with fraying, food-stained freelance projects, the crowning glory of which was the editing of a nearly 300-page treatise espousing fundamentalist Christianity, with its attendant homophobia, general misogyny, specifically anti-woman rhetoric, and of course the requisite air of withering condescension gently wafting over every word. I was nearly crushed to death under the weight of the irony.
And of course because every Exciting Semi-Annual Week of Personal Epic Fail Hurry and Start Yours Today! is completely dependent on impeccably horrendous timing, all this happened immediately after the launch of the blog's new Facebook page! Which a lot of people were kind enough to "like" right away! Which was great! Except then I needed to tweak it! Just a little! But I couldn't! Because that's when the briefcase exploded! And I was showered with technical difficulties like so much incomprehensible Facebook shrapnel! The upshot of which is best relayed gently and sensitively with this classic macro:
"Dammit, Jim, I'm a doctor,
not a Facebook developer!"
Yep. Gone baby gone.
All righty then.
So I kind of staggered to my feet, brushed myself off as best I could, muttered lots of really colorful things under my breath, plowed through all the freelance stuff whilst determinedly ignoring all things Facebook- and blog-related for a good long while (why is it that the more I try to make use of Facebook, the less I like it? We weren't exactly friendly to begin with. Now it's just super-awkward, like when you go in the breakroom to get coffee and the only person there is that really weird guy from Accounting who stayed late the same night you did that one time and in the elevator he suddenly started telling you all about the scale model of his hometown that he's been erecting in his basement for literally years and it's almost finished but he's having trouble with the figurines and he keeps inching closer and closer to you while he's telling you that you'd be a great model for the tiny carving of the mayor's late wife and would you like to come over so he could study you and then you suddenly realize that you don't think this man has brushed his teeth since maybe 1982 but that's likely the least of his problems and dear God does the elevator usually take this long to go seven floors but then finally it reaches the lobby and he just abruptly exits in mid-sentence and you've never really spoken since and now he's here and you've completely forgotten why you ever thought you needed coffee...), and so now here we are! With leftover picspam from Night of a Thousand Years Ago and also yes! A new Facebook page here! Because even though the old one is defunct, the URL lives on forever and can never, ever, ever. be. released. by. Facebook. to. be. reused. Ever. Again., as Facebook explained with a grave tone of finality that made my mind wander off to idly wonder how exactly that mayor's wife died, anyway. So we have a new URL there and everything here is all matchy-matchy with Facebook, in an OMG-that's-so-sad attempt to help people connect the two and not miss any blog entries. Which was the whole point of this exercise at its Inception (Seriously. Go see the movie and then squint at Facebook Timeline again...) all those lifetimes ago. Which reminds me: I should probably discuss my latent masochistic tendencies with my therapist sometime soon.
Anyway: So the blog is back! And we have pics! And vids! And yet another Facebook page! So please come "like" it and enjoy all this great catch-up stuff while I go light a candle to the Facebook gods and whisper a request that the page be allowed to live long and prosper....

Great you are back again, and with such a great gift (of all things). Of course I liked the "new" FB page immediately. I can´t have missing anything related to Johnny. I´m glad you´re kinda back. It really had started to be too quiet.

Very relieved that you survived your stomach flu and have not fallen through a manhole on the ice.
The acquaintance you described reminded me of an employee in a magazine company I used to work for who used to talk to strangers in the elevator. When he got a job in a certain department (circulation? accounting?), ALL the desks that had been in an evenly spaced geometrical grid started slowly inching away from his. So that eventually he had tons of SPACE around his desk and all the other desks were in a clot at the periphery. Also about the time there started a new fitness trend...climbing stairs for exercise.

Dear Creator of this Blessed Universe, Please let me win just enough money in the Lottery to pay for my daughter's college with enough left over so we can visit Sochi in 2014 and then travel Russia a bit because hey, we're there.
I have GOT to see Johnny skate in the Olympics; I can only dream of being there live. But no matter which side of the TV set I have to be on, I will be there.
No matter where Johnny skates, he carries all our hearts along with him.
