Planes, Trains, and Escalators... and More Trains... and Cookies!

The globe-trotting author with a copy
of the Japanese edition of Welcome to My World
Narita Airport, Tokyo, August 31.

"His eyes are also smiling.
If you'll see this photo, he will be smiling for you."

Yes! They made it! And we've got the picspam with which to celebrate it! Our newest Japan adventure begins with Johnny and Tara's arrival in Tokyo--just the beginning of the fascinating and overheated odyssey of sleep deprivation that awaited them...

(Click any photo twice for full-size view. Times and dates slightly approximate and subject to change without notice. Your results may vary. Void where prohibited. I have seriously got to stop watching so many infomercials while waiting for picspam to arrive at weird hours.)

Wednesday, 08/31/2011, about 4 p.m.-ish
They're here! Johnny and Tara are all smiles
as they are greeted at the airport in Tokyo
after the flight from forever.

"Johnny!" "Tara-san!"
Photo courtesy of @ugachan on Twitter.

Gifts for Johnny and Tara! :)
(Off-topic: Love Tara's hair! Eric did an amazing job--
despite being harassed by Josh--with the
Monday Midnight Madness I'm Getting On A Plane
In I Don't Know Like Five Hours Or Something
Please Can You Do Highlights By Moonlight...)

And of course, flowers for Joni-Tan,
as Google Translator calls him.

Chatting with fans and posing for pictures.
Or, insofar as Google Translate could explain the chatter
on Twitter: "Even though so multiple people, each one
greeted one by one and time with everyone." As always.

More from Google Translator:
"Today was a long cardigan in green, and a white tank."
Or, alternatively: He was a tall cool drink of ... crème de menthe.
Whichever you prefer.

And then it was on to Niigata by train, which, when you say it like that, sounds like it ought to be a brisk and uncomplicated endeavor that in no way involves multiple trains and escalators and a gradual descent into some kind of dystopian travelers' hell in which you keep expecting to see Rod Serling waiting at the top of the next escalator engulfed in flames and begging to borrow your "Hello Johnny" fan...

Wednesday, 08/31/2011, 7 p.m.
Train station.
Tara writes: "This is Johnny and Tara trying to investigate...
in our 10-minute break before our next train… "

" ...but we got lost with all the escalators..."

08/31/2011, 7:11 p.m.
Sudden starvation sets in.
"...and then we wanted sushi and this place looked good.
Naturally I was taking pictures everywhere...
so they ordered us to come into the restaurant
so they could pose appropriately.
The chefs made us a yummy meal with yummy smiles!"

08/31/2011, 7:21 p.m.
Apparently they ate in 10 minutes.
"This is our THIRD train for the day...
we're waiting on the platform while they clean for us."
Because Johnny's reputation precedes him
on an international scale...?

08/31/2011, 7:26 p.m.
"... and here's Johnny waiting on the platform."
Yes, he's way, way too hot.
No, I mean like how he was in China
So unbearably hot.
STOP IT PEACE I MEAN THE TEMPERATURE.
SEE HOW HIS FACE IS FLUSHED
AND HIS CARDIGAN IS AT HALF MAST?
OH NEVER MIND.

And Tara is melting too.
Fortunately, "our fun 'Hello Johnny' fan
[new gift from the fabulous Johnny's Secret Garden fan club!]
helped keep us cool!"

08/31/2011, 9:41 p.m.
Trains R Us.
"Johnny with baby and his mommy...
baby is wearing the cutest pair of socks ever... "

 ...little bb ice-skater socks.

08/31/2011, 10:27 p.m.
At the hotel in Niigata. Finally.
"One of my favorite presents of the day,
from a Japanese fan/friend: Chanel cookies
with my name on them! In a Chanel box!"

But I don't know if Tara stayed awake long enough to eat any, because the last thing she wrote me was: "Sory I'm seriously writing this in my sleepl thanmk ou meeafe fofiji do I...."

(I am not making this up.)

Yes, dear Tara, you do...

...send the most entertaining picspam and commentary.

Now please get some sleep.

Great blog is great. Nothing more to say. I love it,and I love your blog and it´s ability to make me laugh out loud.

Thanks to Tara and his Japanese fans for providing the pics and, as always, thanks to Johnny and, of course, to you.

Thank you, Ineko Nakagawa, Binky, Tara, and Johnny, for keeping us up-to-date. Great to wake up to this greenery (flora and fauna) and babies wearing rockin' skating socks.

My head feels like scrambled eggs today, maybe in sympathy. Will try to "cop some zzzz's" this afternoon.

Meanwhile, this blog has escalated my mood....

Love the travelogue, Binkz!
How Johnny and Tara maintain their glam factor, as well as their affability, after all day plane travel and three train transfers is amazing. They probably think that they look really bad and worn out, but let me tell something...have you seen the condition of some folks at arrivals in JFK? It ain't pretty. I used to make a simple train transfer in Hoboken on the way to work and I would bitch the whole time.
...so bravo Johnny & Tara for being cool, calm, and collected...and for posing with probably the cutest fan-baby ever! With those socks, he was definitely squeeing inside!

OMG those bb socks!!!

P.S. Misfit, I LOVE the "Two Hours Later" Spongebob reference - I crack up every time they cut to that on the show! (yes, people, Spongebob is a regular in my household, AND WHAT???...my daughter loves it too! :) )
