And A Whole New Audience Meets the Incredibly Quotable Johnny Weir...

The panel for last night's CNN Dialogues in Atlanta.
Left to right: LZ Granderson, ESPN columnist
and CNN contributor; Donna Rose, transgender activist;
Jane Velez-Mitchell, CNN anchor for "Issues";
Robin Brand, deputy executive director
at the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund; and Johnny.

So once again he may have stolen the show.

Among those live-tweeting CNN Dialogues' latest event--a discussion of the question: "Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender: Has More Openness Led to More Acceptance?"--the one topic that seemed to garner the most attention on Twitter was: stuff Johnny said. And he gained at least one new fan: the rep for Prune Juice Media who was covering the forum (see below).

Here's a recap of the night in pictures and selected tweets:

Johnny grants an interview
before the forum begins
(video of the interview is farther down the page!).

I love this.

Yep.

Yep.

(I think that's supposed to read,
"...has a very supportive family.")

Mara Davis of 929 DaveFM with Johnny.
Mara tweeted the photo with this caption:
"it was so great meeting u!
Loved our bathroom interview will post tomorrow."
Mara recently did a wonderful radio interview
with Johnny in November--if you haven't
listened to it yet, go now!

Bonus video!! The interview that
CNN Dialogues twitpic'd above!

Bonus pic!! Courtesy of my fabulous friend
Jana Colgin, who attended the event:
Johnny autographing Jana's skate. :)

More bonus pics from Russia,
courtesy of the amazing Arthur Lookyanov
This one is titled "Touching the Stars,"
and captioned: "Johnny Weir greets audience
at final of Ice Show "Lights of Big City"
by Ilia Averbuh in Moscow on December 09-11
in Luzhniki Ice Palace."

"Dancing in the Rain."
Arthur explains: "Because of the water drops
were highlighted by powerful light beams
from both sides of the rink, they sparkling here
like a snow.. or wet snow..
Also.. it is a bit long exposure time due difficult
lightening conditions, so that is why you can see tracks
of falling water drops that gives
just different impressions :)".
Incredible.

HEY!!! ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT
to vote for Johnny as
"Must-Follow Athlete on Social Media"
in the 5th Annual Mashable Awards!!

IT'S KIND OF A BIG DEAL. Mashable gets more than 50 million page views per month, and has been named by Time Magazine as one of the top 25 blogs on the Internet.

He's up against some stiff competition from Yuna Kim and John Cena, among others, but hey--we're really good at voting, and since he tweeted about it and is promo'ing it on his website,  let's make it happen!

He's also in some amazing company: As Megan Gusinski pointed out, finalists in other categories include The Trevor Project, NOH8, GLAAD, and Ellen Degeneres, so you might want to do some additional voting while you're on Mashable's site.

Voting ends on Friday, December 16, and the winners will be announced on Monday, December 19. Just click the graphic above or at the top righthand side of the blog to be taken directly to the voting page for Johnny.

You can vote once per day per Twitter and Facebook account. Please VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!

Bonus video via The Advocate, from their post titled:
"Possibly the Most Beautiful Ad for Marriage Equality We've Seen."
The video was produced by an equality group in Australia,
where nearly two-thirds of voters favor legalizing
gay marriage, according to The Advocate
but prime minister Julia Gillard remains firmly opposed.
I agree with The Advocate
This is one of the most eloquent illustrations I've seen
of this simple concept: Love is love.

Johnny's wit has no peer in the ice skating world. You'd need to venture into the world of professional comedians or journalists/broadcasters to find folks who can keep up with him in the quotation department. We fans showed up for the competitions and return for his skating but stay seated in between for the quotes.

Normally I find fashion about as interesting as bird watching (only appreciate intellectually and from a distance and mostly from a sociological/art history/economics point of view). But Johnny is a rara avis (a rare bird) whose plumage reflects his soul.

I believe that if a society unleashes the creativity of its entire population (by doing away with unnecessary repression of folks such as LGBT), as the ancient Athenians did, that all of that society will make much more progress together. My mantra: Make art, music, theater and tourism, not war. Conflict is rooted in a lack of empathy and imagination.
