I used to work for a magazine called "Hydraulics & Pneumatics." Two of our most popular cover stories were on the hydraulic mechanisms inside the Jaws sharks and King Kong.
Bruce the Jaws shark was really three stunt triples...very expensive and a challenge for its engineers to make work on cue: http://gizmodo.com/5332380/remembering-bruce-the-mechanical-shark-from-jaws Salt water is a corrosive holy terror to hydraulic components. Who would have thought those sharks (or rather their operating engineers) were afraid of salt water?
