Just When We Thought the MAC Collaboration Couldn't Get Any More Awesome...

...along comes 1:42 worth of video to make us all stop in our tracks, jaws hanging open and sweat immediately starting to bead on our foreheads, while meteorologists everywhere scramble to understand how this much heat can be generated by.... ice.

In case you've been on Pluto and missed this over the weekend--which first came to my attention via Sarah Jones' casual little post on Johnny's Facebook fan page late Friday night: "They have a video up now. Johnny, Melissa Gregory, Piper Gilles, Ashley Wagner and other skaters." (Oh hey. Really? OK. Hmmm.... La la la.... Where is this thing? What do I click....? Oh, I see. OK. .... OMG. OMG. OMG!!!)--here's a screencap:

Dear USFS:

HELLO.

DO. YOU. WANT. TO. SAVE. YOUR. SPORT.

HERE.

YOU'RE WELCOME.

How is it that MAC can so completely grasp everything that makes ice skating utterly can't-tear-our-eyes-away-sex-on-ice amazing and then create media that absolutely captures this amazingness in under two minutes, and USFS, with its long history of, you know, actually, in fact, managing this sport.... can't?

(For Johnny's take on the level of taste in figure skating, see this excellent and wide-ranging interview with him from TimeOut New York. Also: LOL.)

IDEK, but here it is: Everything that ice skating should and can be, to entrance and enchant and completely captivate people of all ages and make them beg for more. more. more. (Seriously. Read Megan Gusinski's wonderfully charming account of what happened when she sat her mom down to see this video. BTW they ended up watching it FIVE TIMES IN A ROW. Yeah, it's that mesmerizing. And then some. Even the music is made of awesome. IDK where it's from or if it's original for the ad, but I do know some fans are already using it as their ringtone...):

UPDATE! Video now available on the

Better yet: See it fullscreen via the MAC site (for some reason the embed code won't give me the fullscreen option here, which is just pissing me off out of all proportion). Please follow these instructions:

(1) Go here.

(2) After the photo of Johnny loads at the top right, then slides away, you'll see some clickable options underneath the next photo of the Glitter and Ice eyeshadows.

(3) Click on "view video."

(4) Click the icon in the bottom right of the video to go to fullscreen.

(5) Gasp. (Optional. You may wish to proceed directly to step 6.)

(6) Flail.

(7) Repeat.

(8) Flail some more. Or substitute flappy hands. Either one.

(9) Send the link to absolutely everyone you've ever met, and mention that why yes, this is an ad for.... makeup. Don't you want to go buy some? Like right now? (Fact: I went back to the mall and bought another lipstick for myself and an eyeshadow for Alice after watching this. Those MAC people are damn good. BTW I am in LOVE with my Whirls and Twirls lipstick and my Dressed to Dazzle Dazzleglass...)

Speaking of damn good, the fabulous Melissa Gregory is in this video, and she and her husband, the equally fabulous Denis Petukhov, also did the live premiere show for MAC in Orlando with Johnny and Brooke Castile (looooved her on SWTS!) on October 22. Melissa was kind enough to share her exclusive Orlando pics with the blog (see these and more in their Facebook album!):

Melissa and Denis are two of the very few skaters out there who, IMO, bring that same passion, intensity, and sizzling sexuality to the ice that Johnny does--along with extraordinary artistry and athleticism.

They're also dedicated professionals who spend a great deal of time giving back to young people. And they need your help.

Recently their educational program, Fever On Ice, was awarded a $12,000 grant from US Olympics (congratulations! And our votes helped them win! Yay us!). Now Fever On Ice is up for a $50,000 grant through Pepsi Refresh, a charitable division of Pepsi whose mission is to fund "amazing ideas that refresh the world. Dream it, submit it, get enough votes and we'll help make it happen for your community!"

So please go here and vote for Fever On Ice, or use the voting widget at the end of this blog post. You also can vote via cell: Simply text "109998" to 73774, and it'll count as a vote for Fever On Ice!

Right now they're ranked at #38 in their category (they've moved up three places just this weekend!). You can vote once on the website and once by text per day until November 30. Please help get them to that number-one spot and a well-deserved $50,000!!

Bonus pics from the ITNY Gala
performance finale!
(Click any photo for larger view.)
As the performers all gather to take their bows,
Moira North, ITNY founder and artistic director,
comes skating out with special flowers
for the Gala's honoree.

And here they are, a gift to Johnny
from the Facebook group, Show Johnny Weir the Love
spearheaded by fearless leader
and my dear friend Robin Fosdick!

And he loved them.

As the performers chat, a Sky Rink staffer
rolls out the red carpet for some special VIPs.

Ever the gentleman,
Johnny skates back to the stands
to escort one of those VIPs...

...Margarita Sears, this year's recipient
of ITNY's Ice Angel Award
Later, during the dinner, Mrs. Sears shared her poignant story:
She founded the Will Sears Fund in memory
of her beloved son, Ariel William Sears,
who died inexplicably in 2002 at the age of 20.
He and his skating partner, Katie Boxwell,
had won the gold in the U.S. Novice pairs that year.
Just days before he passed away, Will was editing new music
for an amazing young skater whom, she noted,
he affectionately called "Little Johnny"--
the man we all now know as the incomparable
Johnny Weir.

With Margarita safely at the end of the red carpet,
Johnny looks back to see that there's someone else
who could use his help...

...yes, she definitely needs a hand,
what with those sky-high Louboutins...

...and so he goes to collect lovely Tara
also escorted by Gala co-chair Tom Collins
Uncle Dick Button, and Moira North.

And here they all are for the photo op!

Neal Bennington (Neal B in NYC).

Wouldn't it be too fabulous for sanity if this performance of Johnny and the troupe of skaters were to be expanded and performed at shows?

Maybe the ice would melt?! Maybe fans would melt!
