Survey Says: Canadian Potpourri! (Not to Be Confused With Poutine ...)

Johnny on the set of CBC News Now on Sunday,
ready for his live interview. Very special thanks
to Agentress Extraordinaire Tara Modlin for the photo!

OK, whilst (a word I love that they say in Canada) our technicians continue to work feverishly to figure out how to get the video of Johnny's "Just Dance" performance snippet tonight to somehow be available for everyone around the world (I'm guessing some wonderful YouTube user will save the day in the end), we have a brief mishmash of Sunday-in-Toronto stuff to savor!

(Seriously. What is the deal with that? I can't believe we don't have some kind of automatic, ironclad, presidentially mandated television reciprocity agreement with Canada, of all places. A blog commenter was kind enough to provide this link yesterday to the Battle of the Blades website, where full episodes are available. Yay! But when I click on any of them, I just get this polite Canadian response written by someone who appears to be deeply in the throes of a severe allergy to commas:

"We're sorry the video you've selected cannot be streamed outside of Canada. If you are inside Canada and believe you have received this message in error please contact us. http://www.cbc.ca/contact/."

Sigh.

Also, for some reason I find the phrasing, "If you are inside Canada ..." kind of disturbing and evocative of being in the dark nether regions of someone with whom I am not particularly close so the whole encounter is kind of awkward.

And in researching this issue further in a desperate bid to answer the question WHY OH WHY, all I could find was this geekfest of a Q-and-A on the CBC site:

Q. Why do online videos say "content not available"… ?

A. The CBC does not hold international internet distribution rights for television sports and drama shows. We can distribute most of our TV news and current affairs programs online. But hockey, soccer, skating or dramas such as The Border, Coronation Street and The Rick Mercer Report are geo-fenced or blocked (through your IP address) for everyone outside Canada.

Clear as poutine, eh?)

Fortunately, sharp-eyed fans have already spied some videos for us to enjoy. First, posted by Margaret Lei on Johnny's FB page, we have the interview mentioned above from yesterday's CBC News Now:

And then, uploaded by YouTube user aplysia06 and spotted by Jessica Lane, this brief moment from the actual show last night:

In addition, we also are fortunate to have two additional photos kindly shared by Agentress Tara:

Johnny prepares for practice on Sunday for tonight's
"Just Dance" performance. Later, he tweeted:
"#justdance is finished. Canada exclusive!
The lovely Sandra Bezic assisted
in the birth of this snippet! Such a class act. ..."

Hair and makeup done, Johnny's ready for showtime
on last night's Battle of the Blades!

And finally, we have this tweet, which sparked yet another laugh-tastic Twitter-fest:

Oh my. Suggestions? Fans tweeted so many fabulous ideas that the whole concept simply begs for a survey to select a fan favorite! (Knowing, of course, that Johnny will do whatever he's in the mood for at the time. See, this is where a Johnny paper-doll series with endless outfit options would really come in handy: It's Halloween Johnny! It's Christmas Johnny! It's Hombre Johnny! It's What-the-Hell-It's-Wednesday-and-We're-Feeling-Very-French Johnny! ...)

Anyway: Please help dress Johnny for Halloween with this survey! Because it's the most fun we can have on a Monday! Short of it not being Monday at all! Survey ends Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. CDT, and results will be announced here soon. :)

Thanks to Estrellita for making what would have been a dull weekend for me into something fun and whimsical! #hombre #givepeeinpeaceachance #BearInTheMensRoom!

Looks like Johnny is having a great time himself in the Land of Moose and (giant inflatable) Beavers.

haha! love the survey!

how about we give him a bucket of rhinestones and a handful of net and see what he comes up with? less is more, please! um, as in less outfit?

hee hee! bad Robin!

k, onto more serious matters:

1) i am so LOVING his hair right now!

2) President Obama needs to instantly arrange for an "automatic, ironclad, presidentially mandated television reciprocity agreement with Canada". Oh, forget that! We need an international UN mandated proclamation that ALL nations must share any and all Johnny footage, pictures, interviews with EVERYONE. IMMEDIATELY!

seriously. what are they thinking, with this not sharing bit. i know it's prob some weird broadcasting agreement they were forced into . . . i'm sure Canada WANTS to share . . . don't they?

xo

Thank you, Tara, Margaret, aplysia06, Jessica for the vids and pics!! Thank you, Binky, for putting them and for the survey!! I've done my first vote. Love it!!

I'd like to suggest "an oiran." Oirans, sphisticated prostitutes, are gorgeously decorative and artificial like Kabuki actors, while geishas are urbane and chic. Oirans are, so to speak, geishas imagined by Federico Fellini. FYI, from an oiran film SAKURAN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkd2kyOd6eY&feature=related. The first part (1.32) shows a top-rank oiran's parade. I wish to see Johnny parade as an oiran like her! Johnny could walk like that...

Misfit, thank you for all these efforts to smuggle video through the Canadian borders. US Customs has a known history of confiscating drugs from seniors, and the USDA had been (in the past) halting sunblocks containing mexoryl at the border, but holding video hostage is something new to me. I have no doubts that the strong broadcasting lobby in America has something to do with enforcing borders. There needs to be a "Video Free Canada" that allows Canadians to beam video here. Think of it as a First Amendment Rights issue for Canada.

By the way, your Cold-EEZE commercial got me to thinking that your ad agency also needs to create an ad for a much-needed product called "Johnny Weir Skin Thickener." Helps job applicants, would-be dates, and performers of all stripes handle rejection. Helps anyone being unfairly ridiculed allow the mental/physical insults to slide off their consciousness like water droplets off a swan's back. Picks up where powdered milk biscuits and those products in the back of comic books that counteract sand-kicking bullies leaves off. Odorless, greaseless, stainless but guaranteed to expand your aura.

I absolutely love the Halloween costume suggestions. Is it even possible to pick just one?

We're off to a good start for a Monday morning because of you. Thanks Binky.

BTW, I voted for the Greek option for parity. Evan's ESPN attempt at the Greek discuss thrower sculpture was painful. The angle looked awkward, the Greek ideal would be pale marble vs. bronze (or orange). Plus the ESPN man is all about Sparta vs. Athens (Evan would rather let a fox eat his innards than admit things, whereas Johnny wears a sparkly ferret on his shoulder). Glancing at the ESPN photo mainly made me want to go place a frisbee in his empty hand.

Great Blog MM! Thanks to you and Tara for the pics we have yet to see, and thanks also to Margaret and Jessica for uploading and for spotting the only video we've seen so far from the show!

LOved the poll also! I was trying to think of something clever as a write-in vote, but it just didn't come to mind...
