May We Present This Helpful Brochure...
Thank you for calling Maximum Freakage, the Johnny Weir Fans' Crisis Hotline. Please listen closely as our menu options change frequently depending on his mood and the color of his bag.
Press 1 if you're freaked out about his hair. Your call will be automatically forwarded to Eric Alt, who will reassure you in his warmest and most soothing voice that only the finest products were used in creating whatever is on his head today, and also that It's. Just. Hair. And. Will. Look. Different. Tomorrow.
Press 2 if you're freaked out about whatever he's wearing today, what he wore yesterday or to a past event, or what you think he might be planning to wear soon. The outfit in question will be compared to a list of items that Victor is surreptitiously giving away to Goodwill in hopes that he can have at least one freaking drawer for himself. Otherwise, Rachel Zoe and Brad Goreski will listen to your concerns and make copious notes to which they can refer when offering to style Johnny on an upcoming episode of either of their shows.
Press 3 if you're freaked out because he hasn't tweeted in more than 24 hours. We'll empathize with you and read you a comforting selection of past tweets, noting previous time gaps in precise minutes, seconds, and milliseconds, then offer our best calculated guesstimate as to when he'll tweet again. Proven 99% accurate except when he completely surprises us. Which happens... a lot.
Press 4 if you're freaked out about a specific tweet posted prior to January 18, 2012. Linguistics experts, written-voice analysts, grammarians, and his third-grade teacher are on call to help parse every phrase, word, letter choice, and punctuation mark. Their conclusions are then minced and boiled into a mixture consistent with tea leaves, which are read back to you by mystic oracles clad in tatty terry robes. (Results may vary.)
Press 5 if you're really really freaking tired of certain ridiculous comments on the Improv-Ice poll. Operators are standing by to send you a stack of pamphlets to share with commenters, which explain... erm... self-stimulation and how to properly simulate it for all those people who have apparently been doing it wrong. Helpful illustrations include the cover image: a zoomed-in photo of Mr. Weir in the Safety Pants that offers a climactic response to all those protesting with just a bit too much excitement in their outrage that "those pants outline every detail of his anatomy!" An explanation of the phrase "broad appeal" and how that translates into "winning this poll" is included.
Press 6 if you have a mammoth thing shoved in you. We'll try not to giggle.
Press 7 if you're freaked out by this tweet in particular:
If symptoms include hyperventilating, insatiable desire for cookies or chocolate, inability to stop refreshing his Twitter page every five seconds, desperation to redefine the meaning of "tomorrow" ("tomorrow" WHERE? It's already tomorrow in Japan!), and staring in horror at a nearby clock whose hands have SERIOUSLY. STOPPED. MOVING. I. SWEAR. TO. GOD., you may be suffering from:
Please immediately drink three Bellinis, light a candle, and genuflect before an image of Patti. Then allow us to hold your hand virtually whilst we swill more alcohol and await clarification together. Which we're sure is coming ANY MINUTE NOW....
In the meantime, please busy yourself by continuing to vote for Johnny to win Best Improv-Ice Skater:

Hey, Johnny's been nominated for a Shorty Award!! You can join in on the nominating process by clicking here and tweeting your vote for Johnny. Most fans are voting for him in the "Athlete" category.
Note: The Shorty Awards have very specific rules, which essentially boil down to this:

(2) Your nominating tweet MUST include a reason (for example: "I nominate @JohnnyGWeir for a Shorty Award in #athlete because he inspires his fans to believe in themselves"--thanks @PatinaGlace!).

Random Unexpected

Flash of Johnny.
This is an incredibly powerful movie trailer that moved me to tears before I was even halfway through it. Uploaded on Monday, it has already gone viral, according to HuffPo, having reached more than 700,000 views in just a few days. The film advertised is a documentary whose creator needs to raise $50,000 by March 9 in order to move forward with the movie.
You can donate as little as $1 to join in the fundraising effort.
As of about 2:30 p.m. EST yesterday, the filmmaker had hit $39,996 in donations. As of 6 a.m. today, that amount had surged to more than $77,000.
Johnny can be glimpsed at about 6:13, in a clip from a 2010 appearance on Larry King. After viewing the trailer, I can't think of a better use for a donated dollar (or several).
More info on the film's website, Facebook, and Twitter.

Here are a few more gifs from the interview portion of our pageant (sorry, been watching too much Toddlers and Tiaras lately--talk about O.O) to help motivate you to go cast your daily vote:
Speaking of voting: So I came across these tweets on Sunday while watching Improv-Ice:
Which, you know, were similar to hundreds of other tweets that happened during and after the show, all of which made me smile like crazy in between giffing everything in sight.
Then yesterday this same Twitter user tweeted to me:
So of course I had to click the link, and here was this absolutely adorable video:
(Transcript of the video is
at the end of this entry.)
Meet four-year-old Nehemias Jr. (he mostly goes by "Junior").
After I totally died from the precious, I had an engaging Twitter convo with this sweet boy's lovely mama, the aforementioned @ndnspeechmom ("Skye Blue"), who gave me permission to share here.
She is a Native American of the Plains Cree nation, a speech therapist and blogger, addicted to MAC makeup (love her already!), and married to a man from Acupulco, Mexico. They currently live in Saskatchewan, Canada, with their three children, who are half Cree and half Mexican.
We agreed that we love how Johnny's appeal is cross-cultural and basically knows no boundaries.
She noted that Junior's hair is usually braided, but yesterday he was wearing it loose and curly "like Johnny Weir." Also he had been "keeping himself busy trying to spin around holding one leg up. Luckily winter is long here in Canada lol." (LOL.)
I asked Skye if Improv-Ice was the first time Junior had ever seen Johnny, and she said, "Yes, and he's been watching him on YouTube ever since. I let him watch old Kurt Browning vids and he was all, 'That's not Johnny Weir.'" (So he's not only adorable, he's smart!).
Then I asked if he had seen Johnny's Poker Face and Just Dance, and she said, "Yes, but 'Sexy and I Know It' is his fav cuz he saw it on 'the big TV.' It is a nice change from UFC [Ultimate Fighting Championship] and monster trucks. I'm so glad he is watching something on YouTube besides Lightning McQueen."
She added, "Oh yeah, and he is trying to get his 17-month-old brother to watch 'Johnny Weir' with him. (He always says Johnny's full name, so cute.)" #dying
Because Junior's a little soft-spoken, here's what he says on the video:
Mama: Who's Johnny Weir?
Junior: The guy--he dance. We watch him on TV but Johnny Weir, he skating.
Mama: OK, and what do you want to do?
Junior: Skate and then do Johnny Weir dance and then he also jump and do that somersault dance.
Mama: You like it?
Junior: Yeah. Mom, maybe I'll do that like he. Like Johnny Weir.
"A mom can dream, right?" Skye tweeted to me after sharing his closing sentence.
Absolutely. And so can kids. Especially when they have someone amazing to inspire them.
Thank you, Skye, for sharing your dear little boy with us. May all your children follow their dreams and achieve whatever their hearts desire, with the love and support of their family.
And Junior, here's a wave and a kiss from Johnny for you. ♥
Bonus Improv-Ice screencap!
With thanks again to Jenn Kittler!

Sexy and He Knows It.
And We Know It.
People in Indonesia and Outer Mongolia Know It.
Does Anyone Not Know It?
Here, Have Some Gifs.
These'll Clear That Right Up for You.
Johnny skates to LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It"
during the first half of Improv-Ice.

and then make a sound heard only by dogs....

So. That was.... erm...
....eye-poppingly, jaw-droppingly...
WOW.
Sweet Weirsus.
Holy Pants.

(Click any gif for larger HD view.)
If anyone could possibly completely embody a song called "Sexy and I Know It"--emphasis on "body"--and make it come to life on ice via on-the-spot improvisation, it would only be Johnny.
He was absolutely beyond amazing. If the explosion of "OMG!!!!" tweets immediately afterward was any indication. (Seriously, click the link and scroll through the pages and pages of them. It's an awesome experience. :D)
Oh, and then he did a little Styx number later in the show, after this big buildup in the behind-the-scenes interview about how he really had never heard Styx' music and didn't know how this would go yada yada yada....
Johnny performs to "Grand Illusion."
Photo courtesy of Brittany Evans for Disson Skating.

And of course he killed it. His spins alone were incredible. But he also made "Grand Illusion" even better as a song by once again moving with and expressing the music in that way he has that no other skater can match.
But my favorite part of his Grand Illusion performance actually came after he was finished and was taking his bows:
Yeah. OMG. OMFG. I'm guessing the Styx guy had never seen anything like that on ice--or anywhere else...
So anyway, Johnny tweeted a couple of times during the show:
4:20 p.m.
Yes, of course it is.
So as soon as the voting page was opened and also stopped crashing, we did go vote for him. In droves.
Just 30 minutes into the voting, his friend Misha observed:
6:34 p.m.
As of this writing, he's still holding on to a healthy lead, remaining consistently at nearly 40% of the vote for hours (BTW these numbers will be ridiculously outdated by the time you get to the end of this sentence):
(Please click the graphic to be taken to
updated real-time poll results.)
However, voting continues until January 31, so please KEEP VOTING DAILY for him!! You can vote once per day per IP address. (Which means families with multiple computers on one router are limited to one household vote unless you feel like resetting your router four or five times a day. However, we quickly figured out that we could all vote from our phones... and from Starbucks... and from McDonalds... and the Tollway Oasis.... )
So, in hopes that that world-peace thing could, you know, be a thing, my sweet friend Priscilla Robinson noted:
And she's right. So here you go, Priscilla:

of the behind-the-scenes interview stuff, which includes lots
of a very fresh-scrubbed Johnny being adorable,
as well as interesting stuff from the other skaters.
I especially loved seeing Nicole Bobek back on the ice.
She was wonderful. ♥
